The ouster of not qualifying for the Gabon 2017 African Cup of nations may continue to disturb Nigerian fans, but joy may come so soon as the U-23 team hope to put smile on our faces with an Olympic gold in football.

In 2012, when the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the African Cup of nations, our Olympic team also failed to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic games. The situation was so painful that Nigerians prayed that such situation never befall us again. But now at least its a different story.

Coach Samson Siasia’s Olympic team did not just qualify for the football men event of the Olympics, but they also emerged as African champions at the U-23 level, making them go to the tournament as African champions, and should be able to do more to achieve success at the Olympics.

Siasia once reiterated that his target is to win the Olympic gold in football for men, after finishing second with the Olympic team once at Beijing 2008. An attempt by his colleague to qualify Nigeria for the next edition at London 2012 Olympics proved abortive.

Personally, Samson Siasia can achieve his Olympic dream glory, the Gabon 2017 African Cup of Nations was nothing but mere distraction, aimed at making him lose focus on his target, he need to redirect his aim and target the Olympic gold which is what he hopes to achieve.
