UEFA Champions league title holders Barcelona are set to get their pound of flesh from Atletico Madrid, as both teams clash in the first-leg of the quarterfinal of the tournament at Camp Nou.
It will be recalled that Atletico edged out Barcelona at this stage in the 2014 edition before booking a place with Madrid in the final, after securing a 1-1 draw at Camp Nou, and a goalless draw at away saw Atletico through on away-goal rule.
However, Luis Enrique’s men have done the double over Simeone’s men in Laliga this season, but will need to be careful as both teams clash in the champions league.
If Barcelona must progress to the semifinal stage, then a win at Camp Nou is crucial, as it will be recalled that Atletico denied Barcelona even the Laliga title at Camp Nou in 2014 after holding them to a 1-1 draw on the last day of match.
Barcelona are on the verge of seeking a consecutive treble with champions league, Laliga and the Copa del Rey, they have already reached the final of Copa del Rey, and are six points clear off Atletico with seven more matches to go. A win tonight will keep their treble dream alive.
Barcelona won five out of the six titles available last season under Enrique, and will be seeking to do same this season.
