The draw ceremony for the U-23 Olympic men football event was done this afternoon at the Estadio Maracana’s auditorium, where the reigning African U-23 champions Nigeria, will have play in group B alongside Sweden, Colombia and Japan.
Host Brazil will play in Group A against Iraq, Denmark and South Africa, while Algeria will be taking on Honduras, Portugal and Argentina in Group D, in what is best described as “Group of Death” .
Defending champions Mexico will slug it out with Korea Republic, Fiji and Germany in Group C.
Samson Siasia’s men will have to be mindful of the fact that finishing top in the group is key, to give the team an opportunity to play a less stronger team irrespective of the group where the team will be coming from.
