Mourinho May Head To Indonesia To Become Head Coach

The Indonesian government wants to appoint Jose Mourinho as head coach, according to the country’s sports minister.

Indonesia is ranked 185th in the world, but have been banned from international competition since last year due to government interference in football.

Sports minister Imam Nahrawi disclosed to BBC Sports  that he has discussed a deal for the ex-Chelsea boss with the Indonesian President Joko Widodo, which is expected to cost £13m per year.

Since his sack from Stamford Bridge, Mourinho has been linked  and heavily rumoured with Manchester United. The Portuguese, 53, left the Stamford Bridge club in December, barely seven months after leading them to the Premier League title.

Though the former Real Madrid and InterMilan boss has been tipped to succeed Louis van Gaal as Manchester United next manager at the end of this season, but the Dutchman who is still in charge at Old Trafford  has another year left on his contract, and this makes things quite complicated.

Indonesian Sports Minister Nahrawi, believes that Mourinho’s presence would “awaken the fighting spirit” of Indonesia’s players, while Erick Thohir, Indonesian Olympics Committee chairman, has suggested interim Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink could also be an option.

Indonesian officials met Fifa president Gianni Infantino in April and the country’s suspension is expected to be considered at the world football governing body’s congress this month.
