The wind has turned events around in one of the leading choirs of St. Dominic Catholic Church Yaba Lagos, as a post-birthday celebration in honour of Mrs Grace Ayo’s 5oth birthday celebration alongside that of the Choirmaster Mr. Tolulope Fashoro which comes up on May 21st will feature a novelty football match between St. Giles Choir and St. Cecilia Choir.

Mrs Grace Ayo who is popularly referred to as “Mama G” in the choir will be 50 on Friday, March 20th, and has requested that the choir join in her in thanks-giving morning Mass on Saturday March 21, in the church, which incidentally coincides with the Birthday of the Choirmaster of St. Giles choir Mr. Tolulope Fashoro.
Fashoro confirmed to Sports Intelligence that he and “Mama G” agreed to the idea of the football match, and that the novelty football match against St. Cecilia choir which will take place at the University of Lagos by 12 noon between the male and female teams of both choirs is part of the social programmes of the choir.
The novelty match will serve as a warm-up match for St. Giles choir, as they prepare ahead of their June 18 El Clasico clash with SBC Group.

Fashoro called for calmness, orderliness and discipline as he reminded all that it was not a do-or-die game. “As Christians we should be able to exercise ourselves through sports, but he also noted that it will be an honour if St. Giles emerge victorious in the Novelty match”.
St. Giles and St. Cecilia choir sings the 7:15 am and 8:30 am Sunday Masses of St. Dominic Catholic Church Yaba respectively.
Both choirs have also enjoyed a healthy head-to-head football encounter in their last three meetings in the past eight years, with St. Cecilia defeating St. Giles 3-1 in 2008, St. Giles winning 3-1 in 2011, while a 1-1 draw existed in their last meeting in 2012 during the choirs football tournament.
