More than 5000 thousand women took to the streets on Thursday, to demand an end to Brazil’s ‘culture of rape’ blamed for a horrifying attack by 33 men who gang-raped a 16-year-old girl.

Protesters flooded central streets in cities including Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro the venue for the 2016 Olympic games which is coming up less than two months from now, carrying signs with slogans such as ‘We are all bleeding’ and ‘Not the victim’s fault.

The 16-year-old girl who was gang-raped, while visiting a shantytown in Rio de Janeiro, said she woke to find ‘one man under me, another on top of me, and two more holding my hands.

The world global sporting event is expected to begin on August 5 in Rio de Janeiro City, with people from different part of the world coming in as tourists, but there have been several cases springing up and capable of questioning if Rio is the ideal city for the 2016 Olympics.

The Zika virus still been looked at , impeachment of the president still looms, and now the case of massive protest by women on gang rape coming up, barely a day after the senate passes a bill increasing the penalties for gang rape and criminalizing rape recording.

With about two months to the 2016 Olympic games to be hosted in Rio City, the Brazilian government, will really need to beef up security to ensure that athletes and tourists who will be flooding in from different part of the world are adequately protected during their period of sojourn in the City for the games.
