Wales were historical at Parc des Princes stadium in France, as they book a place in the quarter-finals of the European Championships after McAuley’s own goal gave them the victory that was needed to enable them progress.
Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale made the cross, but it was McAuley who perfected the win for Wales.
This is the first time Wales will be going this far in a European Championship, and they are expected to face either of Belgium or Hungary in Lille next Friday.
McAuley who scored the own goal for the Welsh felt the pain most, as he carried himself on the pitch after the blast of the final whistle as though he had betrayed his side.
