American-born Nigerian professional rower Chierika Ukogu has set a new record for Nigeria in the on going Rio 2016 Olympics.
The 23-year-old rower is Nigeria’s first ever rower in the Olympics to have gotten this far, after placing fifth in the third quarter final of the Women’s single sculls and after clocking a time of 7:54.44 secs the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
Ukogu who qualified for top classification in the rowing event in Rio, has also qualified for the semi finals C/D 1 even on Wednesday.
Interestingly, this is her very first ever appearance in the Olympics.
