Germany are through to the final of the Rio football event for men, after thrashing the Nigerian U23 side 2-0 in the semifinal match which the German side controlled and won at the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo.
An early goal in the first half by left-back Lukas Klostermann and a late second half goal by substitute Nils Petersen was what decided the fate of the Nigerian side in the match, confirming the Eagles relegation to the bronze medal search.
The Nigeria U23 young Eagles put little or no effort to win the match, as the Germans dominated the match. They controlled the midfield, provided accurate passes and outclassed the Nigerian team in all departments.
The German side were tactically better and disciplined in the area of keeping the Eagles in offside position, while the Nigerian side were inaccurate in their passes and had a weak attack.
The defeat is Nigeria’s second and ends Nigeria’s hope of neither coming home with a gold nor a silver medal.
Nigeria will take on Honduras on Saturday in the quest for a bronze medal.
