One of team Nigeria’s athletes and Table tennis player Quadri Aruna has become the first African to reach the quarter final stage at the Olympics.
Quadri thrashed his German opponent Boll Timo, 4-2 in a thrilling performance that made him complete the historic feat in the quarter finals of men’s single table tennis event.
The climax of his performance en route the quarter final was Aruna’s bashing of Chinese Taipei’s Chuang-Yuan 4-0 on Sunday, he caused an upset, and it then became obvious that the Nigerian had come to the games determined to set a new record at the Olympics.
However, German star, Boll who is ranked number 10 in Rio, halted Quadri’s run as he won the 4th set and 5th set 11-3, 11-5 respectively, but that was not too significant.
