champions league returners Borussia Dortmund were good at home, as a late goal from substitute Schurrle gave the home side a vital home draw against the defending champions. Madrid took the lead on two occasions but were unable to get a win.

The outcome of the meeting was predictable, as both teams have failed to lose to each other in their various homes during their last six meetings in the uefa champions league.

Dortmund returned in the second half with more confidence and outplayed the defending champions, but it only took a combined effort of Kroos and Ronaldo., as they worked out a short corner which Benzema tried to struck in but it hit the bar and Varane was quick to slot the ball in, giving the visitors the lead for the second time.

Madrid were close to getting an away win and also make history against the German side, but second half substitute Schurrle spoilt their party with a few minutes to end of game, getting a late equalizer in the 88th minutes to make both teams share the available points.
