Tottenham did not live up to expectation in their champions league opening match, as AS Monaco traveled down from France to get an away 1-2 victory at Wembley stadium, making Spurs the only English side that lost in their opener.
All goals were scored in the first half, as the visitors took the lead in the first 15 minutes through Veiga de Carvalho e Silva, and Lemar netted the second goal in 31st minutes putting Monaco on a comfortable away lead.
Alderweireld scored Spurs only goal in 45 minutes of play before half time, but that seems to be their only and last goal to be scored in the match.
Harry Kane missed their late best chance of getting a draw, but Monaco got the vital three points of the match.
Spurs can still scale through in a group that also contains Bayer Leverkusen and CSKA Moscow. But their poor performance and the result means gotten for their opener shows that they have instantly made life difficult for themselves.
