Prior to the Brazil 2014 World Cup, Argentina FA President Julio Grondano had declared that he wants Pep Guardiola to lead Argentina to the World Cup, following their painful exit from the 2010 FIFA World Cup in which Germany mauled them 4-0 in the quarterfinal stage.

That dream was not actualized, as Pep’s contract with his club Bayern Munich seemed not to have made any provision for such.

Interestingly, Pep Guardiola had always been idolized by notable Argentine football stars who have openly admired his style and craved in one way to associate with the current Manchester City Manager.

After winning his first Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich and with a few more matches to end the season, Argentine football legend Diego Maradona described Pep as a magical football manager and also announced that he would be glad to understudy the Spaniard and learn from him.

Pep with Aguero in Manchester City

No doubt, Lionel Messi, Kun Aguero,Macherano to mention but a few may play their last World Cup in the Russia 2018 World Cup, and they may also want to use that medium and break the nations 30-years World Cup drought which is the ultimate desire of the Barcelona star Lionel Messi. The best football manager must then be approached for this big task.

Interestingly, Pep’s profile is indeed rich enough for the great task, and the Spaniard has worked with a good number of Argentine footballers in club football.

However, Argentina is still struggling to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, which happens to be the most important task to be completed, before thinking of getting Pep Guardiola involved, and there is no clause in his contract with Manchester City to allow him make such move during his three-year-contract with them. His contract is expected to expire in 2019, and only then can the terms be renewed.

Kun Aguero who also plays for Manchester City had spoken on Guardiola’s interest to lead Argentina to the World Cup, and the Argentine with his other compatriots such as Maradona and Lionel Messi would be glad to play significant role in getting Pep to the Argentine national team.

But before such moves is made, Argentina will necessarily have to have qualified for the World Cup.
