Manchester United Knock Manchester City Out Of EFL Cup

Manchester United set up a clash with West Ham in the quarterfinal of the EFL Cup yesterday, as they sent EFL Cup holders packing from the tournament after a 1-0 win against City in one of their derbies.

It was Juan Mata who salvaged United, scoring the only goal of the match in the 54th minutes to give Mourinho’s men a sure means of silverware this season.

The Spaniard converted Zlatan Ibrahimhovic’s pull-back when he drove low into the corner to score, keeping their hope alive at Old Trafford.

Both teams were unable to record a shot on target in the first half, but Paul Pogba was quick to to hit the post in the second half, giving hope to Mourinho’s men in the second half, before Mata got the win for United.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, showed less concern for the Cup, making nine changes to his side and recording the managers worst run as a manager as Pep now go six games without a win in all competitions.

Manchester City’s best chance in the game came when Kelechi Iheanacho headed the ball from six yards, while second-half substitutes Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero who came in to change the tempo of the game made little impact.

The win is Jose Mourinho’s fourth win against Pep Guardiola in their 18 meetings
