Basket Ball: UNILAG Cruise To Semifinal Of OOYF Championship After Thrashing FUTMINNA

The basket ball male team of the University of Lagos Akoka, yesterday beat Federal University of Technology Minna to progress to the semifinal stage of the ongoing Olumide Oyedeji Intercollegiate Basketball Championship going on at the indoor Sports Hall of the University of Lagos.

The match which ended 63-57 in favour of the University of Lagos, make them finish second in group A and setting up a semifinal clash with College of Education Minna who finished top of group B.

Head Coach of the University of Lagos Basketball team coach Emmanuel Okolo told Sport Intelligence that he was proud of his boys performance in the match, but they will have to get back to work ahead of their semifinal clash with College of Education Minna.

This is the second consecutive time UNILAG male basketball team will edge FUTMINNA to progress to the next stage of a tournament, the first being in the semifinal of the 24th NUGA Games held at the Obafemi Awolowo University in 2014.

While UNILAG will take on College of education Minna in the first semifinal, Obafemi Awolowo University will slog it out with Ahmadu Bello Zaria in the second semifinal stage.

The invitational Championship organized by the Olumide Oyedeji Youth Foundation (OOYF) which is aimed at having youths explore their talents while combining it with education, had 8 Teams which are UNILAG, ABU, YABATECH, FUTMINNA, OAU, College of Education Minna, Lead City City University and HNAU from Cotonou.
