The absence of Zlatan Ibrahimhovic in the quarter-final FA Cup clash between Chelsea and Manchester United, was an opportunity for Paul Pogba to prove that he was actually worth the £89m world-record signing which United splashed on him during the summer.
The difference between the presence of Pogba and Kante in the midfield was greatly seen leading to Kante emerging as “Man of the Match”. Ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown who commented on the BBC simply said, “It’s men of the match, he was everywhere”.
Kante completed 70 passes with 84.3% accuracy against Pogba’s 27 passes with 74.1% accuracy. In terms of duels won, the Chelsea midut in terms of duels lost, Kante lost just 3 while the United record signing lost 16.
Kante was starting attacks for Chelsea, breaking up moves and sealing the win by scoring the winning goal which gave Chelsea the narrow win over 10-man United.
Chelsea’s fans saw the disparities between the duo, the struggle which Pogba experienced in the midfield and they were left with no other option than to start chanting “what a waste of money”. No such charges was levelled against Kante, who was worth £30m.
Pogba failed to get into the game, either before Chelsea took the lead or afterwards but that was a signing whom Jose Mourinho looked up to in his summer signing, he put his whole heart on him.
