Stephen Odey scored twice today as MFM FC defeated visiting Rivers United 2-1 to maintain top position of the Nigeria Premier Football League at the Agege stadium in Lagos.
Odey who before today’s match was the leading goal scorer of the NPFL also increased his goal lead by two goals, making the forward have 11 goals out of 14 games so far, while the brace puts his goal tally 4 goals ahead of Elkanemi’s warrior Samuel who have 7 goals.
MFM have 27 points after the win,and are trailed by Plateau United who have 25 points from 14 matches also.
All three goals of the match were scored in the first-half, Odey’s brace came through penalties in the 29th and injury time of the first half, while Rivers United goal came in the 33rd minutes through Christian Weli.
The win will make the club remain consistent in her quest to finish top 4 and experience continental challenge ahead of next season.
In another development, Shooting Stars of Ibadan defeated visiting defending champions Enugu Rangers by 1-0 to move to the 13th position of the table while they await the result of Katsina United who trail them by 1 point.
