Bayern Munich are hopeful of progressing to the semifinal stage of the champions league despite losing at home to Madrid in the first-leg of the European championship.
Madrid beat 10-man Bayern 2-1 in Germany, but former Madrid player Xabi Alonso, who currently plays for Bayern Munich believes his side has what it takes to overturn the 0ne-goal advantage and progress to the semifinal stage of the tournament ahead of the defending champions.
According to reports from ESPN the Spaniard was quoted to say “We’re Bayern Munich, we know how to win.” Alonso believes that Bayern will scale through to the semifinal at the expense of Madrid but that would really be a difficult one.
Unfortunately, history may not favour Bayern as they have lost reached eight of their 10 away games against Real Madrid in all competitions, winning just two. The last time Bayern beat Madrid at Bernabeu was in 2001.
Real Madrid will be hoping create a new record if they reach their seventh consecutive champions league semifinal today, in the match against Bayern and since 2010-11, Madrid have won 34 of their 40 games at Bernabeu which is 85% success rate.
This is the 24th European Cup/Champions League fixture between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, of which 18 of these meetings have been during the champions league era.
