Pep Guardiola who is arguably the most celebrated and highest paid football manager in the world will end his first season in England without winning any silverware, after Arsenal edged out his side during the extra time of semifinal clash of the FA Cup at Wembley Stadium.
The Catalan won 14 trophies in Barcelona during his four seasons sojourn at Camp Nou and won 7 trophies at Bayern but things seems not to go rosy for the former world best manager, whose side crashed out courtesy of a lowly rated Wenger.
Many would regard the City manager as a failure in his first season in England, particularly as he had a pedigree which led to his coming to premier league.
Pep was expected to improve on City’s previous performances, but the reverse happens to be the case. In the champions league for example, City who last reached the semifinal under former manager Pellegrini was edged out by Monaco in the quarterfinal, making it impossible for Pep to reach his eight consecutive champions league semifinal as football manager.
Pep Guardiola will need to address pertinent issues affecting the club, particularly in the goalkeepers line where he replaced Joe Hart with Bravo, though the changes seemed not to have salvaged the club.
Guardiola’s main concern this season is to ensure City finish top four this season, and the journey begins this Thursday when his side clash with United in a derby that is important to both teams.
A win for City will keep the top four dream alive, while a loss will mean City may not finish top four at the end of the season, the decision is for Pep.
