Jose Mourinho believed that the moment of reviewing club’s decision has come, a time when the Portuguese manager set aside club’s top four ambition to pursue Europa League cup, the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford was all United needed to scale through to the final of her first ever Europa league cup after getting a 1-0 away win advantage in Spain.

United clash Celta vigo
The clash was a clear case of reactions to frustration from both sides during the match, but who would have master-minded it

It was indeed a narrow escape for Manchester United, after Celta Vigo attempted in the last six seconds of the match to spoil the club’s new ambition of winning the Europa Cup rather than finishing top four, when Guidetti missed the last opportunity to see Celta through. Old Trafford stadium was sparked with life, when the final whistle was blown, hopes were rekindled and greater prospect loomed for the club under new manager Jose Mourinho.

But United had made significant sacrifice to reach this level, the 2-0 loss to Arsenal in the premier may look stupid, but winning the Europa League cup was  historical and a greater achievement for the club, since that happens to be the only silverware Manchester United had not won in Europe, and it was the only available backdoor leading to the champions league, and United are keen on making judicious use of it.

Last season, Liverpool and Sevilla contested a heavyweight final in Basel for the Europa Cup, but it was Sevilla who edged one of England’s former European champions to make use of the slot to qualify for the champions league, but on May 24, United will be hoping to re-write club’s history in Stockholm, when they clash with former European champions Ajax in a match that will show footballing royalty.

Manchester United will be under pressure again when they meet Ajax on May 23 in the final of the Europa Cup, as Ajax have already secured Champions League qualification through the Dutch Eredivisie this season, so they will travel to Sweden with the sole aim of winning the trophy alone, while United will be battling for winning and qualifying for the champions league knowing full well they had sacrificed the top for dream for the Europa Cup.

If Manchester United win the Europa Cup, they will find themselves back in the Champions League and will also join the list of  European clubs like Ajax, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Chelsea who are the only clubs to have won all of UEFA’s major trophies: the European Cup, which was replaced by the Champions League; the Cup Winners’ Cup, which is now defunct; the Super Cup; and the UEFA Cup, which was replaced by the Europa League.
