Cristiano Ronaldo reassured his nation of his commitment, towards ensuring that Portugal’s flag is kept high in the on going FIFA Confederations Cup, after he scored the only goal of the match that gave Portugal a vital 1-0 victory against host nation before a 42,759 crowd at the Moscow Stadium.
Russia were seen as favourite ahead of the match, after they thrashed New Zealand 2-0 in their first match, while Portugal conceded a late goal against Mexico in their opener to end Portugal’s hope of winning the match.
However, Ronaldo proved bookmakers wrong, when he scored his 74th international goal for nation in just eight minutes of play, which eventually became the only goal of the match.
The win gives Portugal four points after two matches, with high hopes of finishing top of table if they get a resounding win against New Zealand in their final group match, while they will hope that Russia who need a vital win could do them a favour when they face Mexico.
