On this day July 17 in the year 1994, the Brazilian national team won their fourth and first ever World Cup through penalties, after beating Italy in thefinal at Rose Bowl stadium in the United States of America.

Romario kisses the World Cup in 1994

Brazil and Italy played for 120 minutes without scoring a goal, before the game entered into penalty shoot-out, but it was Brazil who won 3-2. Brazil will thank Roberto Baggio who missed his penalty and helped them win.

It was the first ever world cup final that ended goalless in the history of the competition, and the second time Brazil would beat Italy in the final of the Fifa World Cup, the first was in 1970 final when they defeated Italy to win the trophy.

The World Cup trophy was presented to Brazil captain Carlos Dunga by the then Vice-President of the United States Al Gore before a crowd of 94,194.

The Rose Bowl stadium was the largest stadium that was used for the tournament by the host nation.
