Gold Coast 2018: Governor Dickson Splashes Cash On Nigerian Wrestlers

In the bid to encourage wrestlers who represented Nigeria and did the nation proud in the just concluded Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson on Tuesday rewarded the team with a whooping sum of N13.9 million naira.

The wresting-loving governor made the cash available in a reception ceremony held at the state house in Yenagoa for the Nigeria Wrestling Federation team for their outstanding performance at the Commonwealth Games.

Each of the gold medalists got N1,500,000 (1.5 million Naira), while the silver medalist  and bronze medalists got N 1,000,000 (one million naira) and N 700,000 (Seven hundred thousand naira) respectively.

The magnanimity of the governor was also extended to the wrestlers who failed to win a medal at the event, as they also got 500,000 (Five hundred thousand naira) each, while the coaching crew all smiled home with N1000,000 (one milion naira) each.

The Nigerian wrestling team won a total of eight medals, made up of three gold, two silver and three bronze in the just concluded Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

The governor who has been an ardent lover of wrestling in Nigeria has on several occasions supported the Nigeria Wrestling federations.

It will also be recalled that he was physically present at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth to support Nigerian wrestlers at the event.
