GOLD COAST – Nigeria’s Odunayo Adekuoroye has won gold in the women’s freestyle 57kg following her defeat of Pooja Dhanda of India in the gold-medal match at Carrara Sports and Leisure Stadium on Friday 13 April.
The 24-year-old beat Sarah Mcdaid of Northern Ireland, Joseph Essombe Tiako of Cameroon and Noellancia Ginave of Mauritius all in the group stage, before proceeding to the semifinal where she edged out Canada’s Emily Schaefer in the semifinal to reach the final.
Dhanda who lost to her in the final claims the silver, while Emily Schaefer of Canada took the bronze, after she defeated Joseph ESSOMBE TIAKO of Cameroon.
The victory now means Nigeria have a total of six gold medals at the games.
