Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid will for the first time visit Nigeria to play the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on May 22, 2018.
The international friendly match is part of the first edition of the Gotv MAX Cup, which was announced at a press conference organized by the video entertainment company MultiChoice Nigeria.
The General Manager of MultiChoice Nigeria Martin Mabutho who spoke during the press conference on Thursday at the Gotv office in Victoria Island said :”We are delighted to bring one of the three biggest clubs from LaLiga to Nigeria in what we believe will be a historic visit,”
“As you all know Atlético Madrid are one of the top clubs in LaLiga. GOtv customers and indeed, football fans in Nigeria, will have the rare opportunity of watching the stars play the Super Eagles right here on Nigerian soil.”
In attendance during the press conference are Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Amaju Pinnick, NFF second Vice President and Chairman League Management Company (LMC)Shehu Dikko, LaLiga delegate Javier Del Rio; General Manager, Sales and Marketing, MultiChoice Nigeria Martin Mabutho and former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju.
The game will be played six days after the Spanish giant would have played Olympique Marseille in the final of the Europa League, where Atletico will be hoping to lift the trophy for the third time.
