Russia 2018 have officially handed over the World Cup host to Qatar who will be looking forward to stage the next edition in 2022 when the oil-rich Arab nation will have an opportunity to continue from where the European side stopped and thrill the World.
According to report from the official website of FIFA, the Russian President Vladimir Putin, Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and FIFA President Gianni Infantino took part in a handover ceremony to hand over the role of FIFA World Cup hosts from Russia to Qatar.
The trio who gathered in the Georgievsky Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace,used the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup official match ball to represent a baton where Russian President Mr Puttin himself took it down from the podium and handed it to the Emir of Qatar.
The ceremony symbolises that Russia 2018 has come to an end, with France defeating Croatia 4-2 in thriller World Cup Final at the Luzhniki Stadium to become world champions for the next four years. The next World Cup will be held in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December 2022.
The 2022 edition also means that for the second time, Asia will be hosting the World Cup after the continent first hosted in the 2002 edition where Japan/South Korea co-hosted.
