Nigeria Sports Minister Barr. Solomon Dalung has responded to the IAAF threat of banning Nigeria from the Olympic in a manner that shocked Sports enthusiast.
According to a voice over note interview shared with members of the AIPS Africa members on their group chat.
Dalung described the news of the threat as something he just saw on the social medi. And at such will not respond to it.
“I will not react to something I heard on the social media Dalung said. I will wait until I have been adequately briefed by the AFN’ Dalung said.
When the red beret Minister was asked if he was aware of the over payment of $135,000 by the IAAF into the AFN’s account. Dalung said he wish not to respond to what was contained in the document as he has not been briefed by AFN.
It will be recalled that On June 28, 2018 the Sports Ministry had promised the IAAF that 50 percent of the sum will be paid back. But despite several telephone conversation between the parties involved, Nigeria failed to make the payment.
The IAAF knowing that the tenure of Solomon Dalung as Sports minister may come to an end on May 29 2019. Gave Nigeria a two-week ultimatum to make full payment or face a risk of being banned from the forthcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Dalung’s response clearly showed the height of insensitivity which he employs particularly in a situation where crises is brewing. His managerial competence is indeed lacking and his response on the issue has been seen by most Sports enthusiast as embarrasing.
Time is indeed not Nigeria’s friend at this point. With just less than two weeks to go, the burden and fate of Nigeria ahead of the forthcoming 2020 Olympics is now in the hands of Solomon Dalung.
