Vincent Kompany Disobeyed Pep Guardiola To Become Hero In Leicester Defeat

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany became the hero of the night in City’s 1-0 victory of Leicester City at the Etihad Stadium. It was Manchester City’s last premier league home match at the Etihad Stadium, and a match City needed to win and keep their title race alive. Pep Guardiola had shouted to Kompany "Don't shoot" "Don't shoot" from far range, but the 33-year-old defiled the instruction of his manager to become the hero. Leicester City had kept City from scoring for almost 70 minutes of play and all hopes for Kun Aguero, Raheem Sterling,  Bernado Silva, David Silva and even Sane who came in from the bench to score the decisive goal proved abortive.

But Kompany knew it was time to disobey his manager’s order. The Belgian struck from 25 yards in the 70^th minutes to give City the decisive goal that made the difference in the night. The mood at the Etihad stadium which earlier appeared tensed up was suddenly re-ignited with life, as fans jubilated with their whole heart for that wonder goal. No one had expected that Vincent Kompany would become the hero tonight. But the long-serving captain did what he needed to salvage the situation. It was in fact, the most impressive goal that stood between City and the title, and Kompany delivered when it was most needed. It was also a goal that made Kompany snatch the Man of the Match award from Kasper Schmeichel who was close to winning the individual honour before Kompany broke the deadlock. Following the blast of the final whistle, Kompany went round to greet fans with tears on his face. He had played a significant role towards ensuring his team’s success. Man City will travel to Brighton on the final day of the season to play their last match, while Reds who suffered a heavy blow as a result of City’s victory will host Wolves.
