Executive Director of White Bird Taekwondo Academy Ms Anita Aluya has stated that the second edition of the WTA U-15 Championship is not aimed at producing fighters for the Japan Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Anita disclosed this to newsmen recently in Lagos during the event which took place at the NIS Gymnasium on Saturday June 29, inside the National Stadium.
“The children participating are good and very skillful, but unfortunately they have not taken part in any national trials and that will make it impossible for them to take part in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics” Anita started.
“But from what I am seeing at this championship, we are only preparing them for future Olympics after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics where they will go and grab medals for Nigeria at the Olympics”. She added.
On issue of age cheat at the championship, she disclosed that the WTA U-15 Championship ensured the children used their real age.
“As you can see some are even babies, and the older ones are in secondary school”, “We ensured it is pupils and students within the age that we need, and I would have fished anyone out once we discovered the person is not within the age”.
The event which is a private initiative by White Bird Taekwondo Academy had 15 schools participating with over 150 students and pupils who took part in the exercise, with 15 referees and 5 volunteers.
