The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has officially acknowledged receipt of the FOI Act request presented to her by Sport Intelligence Magazine. The Ministry also used this medium to plead for an extension of time.
The document which was sent via email and addressed to “Joseph Odoekwu, Publisher, Sport Intelligence– Heptano Communications , was signed by A.B Lere-Adams who is the Director Press on behalf of the Permanent secretary.
The second paragraph of the response read as follows: “I am directed to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated August 5, 2019 but was received in the office of the Permanent Secretary August 08, 2019.” Furthermore, I have also been directed to plead for an extension of time to source for required information for events that occurred in 2017. This is to ensure that you are availed accurate and correct information on your enquiry”.
The response came on Thursday August 15 evening, three days after it was served. Since Monday August 12th and Tuesday August 13th are Public Holidays, both days are exempted under the Act in line with its provisions.
In response to the extension appeal made by the Sports Ministry, Sport Intelligence Magazine has responded and also reminding the Ministry that section 6 of the FOI Act has also stated the duration of the extension, as it must not exceed 7 days.
The FOI Act request is made to get clarification on how the former Sports Minister Barrister Solomon Dalung managed the said sum when it was overpaid by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).
It will be recalled that Nigeria was at the verge of been sanctioned by IAAF before Dalung made an official statement, promising that the money will be paid in due course.
