In the bid to boost the morale of participating students in the maiden edition of the Somolu Newspaper U-16 Championship, the duo of Jide Omotayo and Funke Oshonaike have been named ambassadors of the championship.
This was disclosed in a Press statement issued by the event organizer Mr. Sherrif Owolabi Bada who stated that all hands are on deck to ensure that the objectives of the championship is achieved.
“It is a good thing we have these two African champions (Jide Omotayo and Funke Oshonaike) in our fold, and that alone is a record which no local government or state in Nigeria has ever achieved”.
“Jide and Funke are our ambassadors and we are so proud of them, they have brought honour and glory not only to Somolu community, but also to Lagos, Nigeria and Africa as a whole”.
Mr. Sherrif further stated that efforts will be made to bring more world-class players on board to help give the championship the quality of standard it is intended to achieve.
The Somolu Newspaper U-16 table tennis championship also has a new date and venue. The event is to hold on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd November 2019 respectively, at the Agunbiade Table Tennis Indoor Hall and not the Mobolaji Johnson Indoor Sports Hall which was the initial venue.
The 2-day Somolu Newspaper U-16 Table Tennis Championship is organized for students of public schools in the Somolu community, with the aim of promoting and discovering talents in the game.
