Senegal who was the last team standing for Africa was edged out yesterday by Spain with a 2-1 victory. There was probably hope but Spain proved more potent in the game.

Prior to the match between Senegal and Spain, tournament host Brazil had beaten Angola 2-0 to end their stay in the championship.
A 3-1 defeat in the round of 16 to five-times champions Nigeria by Netherlands was another heavy-blow on Africa. Before Senegal were sent packing by Spain.
Africa had four representatives, but Cameroon who came as African champions could not make it to the round of 16.
Senegal’s exit means Africa will not have any representation as the tournament enters its quarterfinal stage.
