The board of Nigeria Rugby Football Federation must have a question to answer following a reaction from the Commissioner for oats in the Federal High Court Ikoyi-Lagos today, which suggests that the game of Rugby is not played in Nigeria .
The question came up after a suit filed against the Federation was presented to the Commissioner for oats (Mrs Adegbite), and she saw the front page to see Rugby Federation as Respondents the suit.
The suit which had the NRFF and The President-Nigeria Rugby Football Federation as joint respondents, was jointly instituted by Mr. Joseph Odoekwu and Heptano Communications.
However, Mr. Ayode Longe, the Programme Director, Media Rights Agenda who was also in the office when the Commissioner for Oaths asked the question, attempted to enlighten her further as he said : “But they (NRFF)get grants and subvention from budgets, so it is played in Nigeria”.
While no further comments were made by the Commissioner for Oaths, her message seems to have been sent across, and this suggests that the NRFF have not done much through the media to carry Nigerians along about the beautiful game.
Although, the Federation and the President of NRFF are yet to be served the summon, the Applicants acted within the specified period stated by the Act, by instituting proceeding in the court to compel the NRFF to comply with the provisions of the Act.
The decision to institute Court proceeding against NRFF came up, following the refusal by the Federation to respond to an FOI Act request which was served to them on February 3, 2020 by the Applicants.
