The President of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Engr Ishaku Tikon has commended the Nigerian contingents at the just concluded qualifiers in Tunis for picking the Olympic tickets.
Olufunke Oshonaike made history to become the first African female to qualify for seven Olympic Games, while the duo of Offiong Edem and Olajide Omotayo also secured their place at the Olympics.
However, Africa’s highest ranked player Aruna Quadri will have his qualification delayed, due to a recurring thigh injury which affected his second group tie against Diaw of Senegal.
Speaking on the qualification, the sports-loving administrator Engr. Tikon who also made himself available at Tunisia to cheer the team to victory noted that the task was not an easy one and the players have done well to do the nation proud.
Tikon reinstated again that “We are not going to Tokyo for jamboree. We are going there to show the whole world that our qualifications is not a fluke”
“We have the best and highest ranked male player in Africa, in person of Aruna Quadri and that informs our readiness to shock the World” he concluded.
The President of NTTF did not fail to commend the Hon. Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare, for his support and encouragements towards their qualification. The team has since returned to the country.
