Manchester City honoured Liverpool by giving them a guard of honour at the begin of the match as champions. But they did not honour them on the field of play.

City who were dethroned scored three goals in a space of 20 minutes in the first half, to welcome the new champions. They played with no regard for the newly crowned champions, eventually winning by 4-0.
