Manchester City were edged out by a lowly fancied Lyon in the quarterfinal of the Champions League. They were the only English side remaining but failed to sustain the tempo reached by Liverpool and Tottenham last season.
Lyon scored three times to reach the semifinal, ending England’s last hope of reaching the semifinal.
City were favourite to win, but they rued their chances and Sterling must have himself to blame after sending the ball above the post late even with an empty post in his front.
City enjoyed the possession but it was Lyon who did the finishing, dashing the hope of an entire nation.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola must also take responsibility for playing a three defence line aginst Lyon in the clash.
It is Pep Guardiola’s fourth champions league and have been edged in the quarterfinal of the champions league. Interestingly, only two nations (England and France teams)have sent him out at this stage.
Monaco were first, before Liverpool and Tottenham followed and now Lyon completes the session.
The win means only two French and German sides will reach the semifinal, proving bookmakers wrong.
