A former member of the defunct Nigeria Football Association Mallam Gara Gombe has stated in clear terms that he will not give NFF President Amaju Pinnick support as he aspires to become a member of the FIFA Committee.
Gara who was a former Chairman of the Gombe Football Association, stated that Pinnick failed to keep his promises when he eventually assumed office as NFF Boss.
“When he (Pinnick) was contesting for President, I supported him”. “After he won, he invited me to Warri with other stakeholders where we discussed extensively”. “We agreed on a roadmap on how to develop Nigeria Football, but things turned around afterwards” Gara stated
Mallam Gara Gombe also noted that former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung also kicked against the candidacy of Pinnick when he sought support as a member of the CAF Executive Committee. However, he added that support from Ifeanyi Ubah made Pinnick scale through.
“Pinnick became so desperate when he got into office”. “Then corruption and lack of accountability became the order of the day in the glass house”.
“We met by chance in Morocco during the CAF executive Committee meeting when I went to his hotel with a member of the Royal family”. “Pinnick appealed to me that we should not be fighting as brothers”.
“I also promised to support his tenure in CAF, and he appointed me as a member of the NFA Reform Committee which I accepted”. “After the inauguration, I realized that it was not going to be a serious exercise because the the committee was personalized”.
“Those who created the problems were in charge of the committee, so I resigned” he said. “Furthermore, the committee report was thrown away, justifying the reason I resigned”.
“Later, Pinnick came to beg me to reconcile him with Barr. Green, which I did in my house”. “But he never did any of those things which which they agreed to do”.
“When Amaju wanted to contest for CAF Presidency, I supported him based on the Nigeria sentiment which is been paraded now, but people started calling me names saying he gave me money”.
“I was later invited to Abidjan to work against the candidature of Pinnick, but I turned that invitation down”. “I told them I will never fight a fellow Nigerian for the sake of a foreigner, irrespective of our differences at home”. I still have their Air Ticket which they sent to me”
” Unfortunately, Amaju changed his mind on contesting for the CAF Presidency without telling me or most of us who believe in the Nigerian Project”.
Mallam Gara further disclosed that corruption has been the bane of Amaju Pinnick’s administration. “No transparency, and accountability”. ” Aisha Falode whom Amaju illegally appointed as Chairperson of Women League took me to court and I was told he is aware”.
“I am not afraid of facing Aisha and the entire NFF in Court” .”But for Pinnick to come and ask for our support, he has to purge himself of his deceitful manner and lack of being a man of his word”. “He lies a lot, and does not keep confidential matters away from the Public” he concluded.
