Arsenal managed to curtail a 1-0 home defeat at the Emirate Stadium to scale through to the quarterfinals of the Europa League.

Their visitors came to Emirates determined to qualify, but luck was not on their side. No doubt, Arsenal were extremely disappointing in their performance, but they achieved their goal.

Leading 3-1 from the first-leg, Arsenal could not level up after Youssef El-Arabi scored the opener in 51′ minutes. Perhaps, pressure was removed from Arsenal when Ousseynou Ba got a red card. It eased the tension and made them scale through.

On the other hand, Tottenham failed to scale through to the quarterfinal despite taking a 2-0 first-leg lead. Dinamo Zigreb treated Spurs with little regard as they scored three goals to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit.

Mourinho’s men were unimpressive. They paid dearly for their poor performance as their hope of winning a second silverware and probably qualify for Europe ended miserably.
