Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho became the toast tonight as he scored a brace to help Leicester City reach the semifinals of the FA Cup for the first time since 1981/82.
Before this very encounter with Manchester United, Leicester have lost five consecutive FA Cup quarter-final matches, but Iheanacho did his part to help write a new record.
Iheanacho may have had mixed fortunes since his £25m move from Manchester City to Leicester in 2017, but his performance in ending United’s semifinal hope must have shown the level of improvement he has had during this period.
He opened scoring for Leicester City after 24′ minutes, before Greenwood leveled up for United in 38 minutes. The first half eventually ended in draw.
In the second half, Iheanacho’s assist helped Tielemans’ put Leicester in front in 52′ minutes, before he eventually killed United’s hope of coming back in the 78 minutes.
Scoring the brace for Leicester means Kelechi Iheanacho has scored 13 goals in 18 FA Cup games, the most of any player in the competition since making his debut in January 2016.
Leicester City will now meet Southampton in the semifinal, while Manchester City face Chelsea.
