The Zonal Coordinator of the South East zone of the National Youth Development Project (NYDP) Peace Cup Comrade Chiagozie Paady Obinna has disclosed that grassroots teams are now free to register for the competition.
This was disclosed recently to Sports Intelligence Magazine in a chat in Owerri, where the S/E Zonal Coordinator referenced a statement issued by the National President of the NYDP Peace Cup.
Sports Intelligence Magazine gathered that the initial idea was to have Local Government register teams for the competition, but there was also a need to carry along teams at the grassroots level who may not have an opportunity to be in the LG teams.
Comrade Paddy informed our correspondent that after a very crucial meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, State Coordinators were advised to go ahead and register grassroots Football Teams in each state, rather than waiting for Local Governments Chairmen.
“If Local Government teams register for the competition, it is fine, but we cannot keep waiting for LG Chairmen.” “The Competition must go on and we practically need youths at the grassroots level and that is why we need to take the events to existing grassroots teams the SGF was quoted to say.
“To that effect, we want State Coordinators to commence registration of grassroots teams at a reduced cost of N50,000 (fifty thousand naira) for non-local government teams” he concluded.
The NYDP Peace Cup is a football event aimed at harnessing the potentials of talents at the grassroots level, with the hope using the round-leather game to advocate for peace in Nigeria and her borders.
Forms for the NYDP Peace Cup are available on the official website of the event www.nationalyouthdevelopmentproject.com.ng and it is expected that the unveiling will take place on Saturday June 17, 2021 in Abuja.
