The maiden edition of VEMP Wheelchair Tennis Championship has ended in Lagos with Alex Adewale and Kafayat Omisore emerging champions.
Playing in the men’s singles category, the defending champion, Alex Adewale made it a back-to-back win when he defeated the no2 seed ,Wasiu Yusuf 6-2, 6-2 to emerge victorious, thereby retaining his title while Kafayat Omisore outclassed Foluke Sodeinde 6-1, 6-1 to win the women’s singles title.
Both the men’s and women’s singles champions pocketed the sum of #100,000 each while runners-up in both categories got #70,000 each. Semi-finalists received #50,000 each.
There were other coach awards that every participant being rewarded. A total of #1.4m was set aside as cash awards.
The weeklong championship which attracted over 150 players from across the country was sponsored by the president of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju.
