Egypt have qualified to the quarter finals of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 after beating Cote d’Ivoire 5-4 on penalties.
The Pharaohs kept their cool in the nerve-racking penalties to beat Cote d’Ivoire with substitute goalkeeper Mohamed Daader saving Eric Bailly’s spot kick.
The match which was played at the Japoma stadium attracted an enthusiastic crowd that cheered the fans to the last minute.
The defeat is reminiscent of the 2006 finals where the Pharaohs beat the elephants in the final on home soil to win their fifth title.
The victory means Egypt will have to lock horns with fellow North Africa side Morocco to fight for a place in the semifinal.
