Sierra Leone Boxing Association To Host Boxing Zone 2

By Hawa DAUDA Sierra Leone Boxing Association is set to host fifteen African countries in the Zone two tournament in Sierra Leone, in March this year. Sierra Leone Boxing Association (SLBA) bid with countries like Nigeria and Mali to host Zone 2, but Sierra Leone won the bid. When speaking to the President of Sierra Leone Boxing Association Solomon Kargbo, he stated that they have engaged the relevant Authorities to grab the opportunity to host over fifteen countries in a tournament as that will help boost the country’s economy. Kargbo furthered that the venue for the tournament is not certain it all depends on the renovation process that will commence soon at the Siaka Stevens Stadium. “ we are looking for a conducive venue to host this tournament even if the Siaka Stevens stadium is not available” he landed According to Solomon Kargbo, things are hard for the Association and they are looking forward to government and cooperate houses' support. Commenting on some of the issues bothering the Association, Kargbo said their passport is with Nacoverc since they return from the Boxing world championship in Serbia in October because they were unable to do payments for the Covid-19 test. He went on to say they have held several meetings with the Ministry of Sports and National Sports Authority to help them retrieve their passport but all that they are receiving is the promise of hope, that they are working hard for them to receive their money “ we Also have debt in Serbia for the hotel I booked and now the time is near, they will ban us and remove our privileges as an affiliated country if we don’t pay the money before March” he stated According to Solomon Kargbo, they need the passport to do registration for the team for the commonwealth games and the female boxing world championship this year. Kargbo pointed out that not only Boxing other sporting disciplines are suffering, “All the attention is on football” he said. He further encouraged the ministry of sport and National Sports Authority to do the needful that can push every supporting discipline forward because they are important.
