Deaflympics: Ukraine In Comfortable Lead, Kenya Makes History, Nigeria Missing On Medal Table

Ukraine are currently top of the medal table with 42 gold, 22 silver and 25 bronze medals in the ongoing deaflympics 2021 currently taking place in Caxias do Sul, Brazil.

With a total of 89 medals they have an outstanding lead with 25 gold medal ahead of the United States who are second and have 17 gold, 5 silver and and 16 bronze medals.

Japan are third on the table with 11 gold, 7 silver and 9 gold medals while Iranian taekwondo team recently clinched 4 gold medals, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals in different categories to add up and move their nation to fourth with 8 gold, 7 silver and 10 bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Kenya have made history at the deaflympics as the bagged their first medals with Serah Kimani and Grancy Kandagor grabbing silver and bronze respectively in the  women’s 10,000 metres on Sunday

So far, Kenyan athletes have been famous in world championships and Olympics in long distance, a footstep which their deaf team had to follow to put Africa on the 12th position on the medal table.

However, Nigeria’s name is conspicuously missing on the medal table as the team have nothing to show yet for their presence at the games.

The 24th summer deaflympics which started on May 1 is expected to come to an end on May 15, 2022.
