The Chairman of the house committee on Sports of the Lagos state House of Assembly Hon. Moshood Oshun has charged members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria in Lagos, to give more attention to other sports and not concentrate on football alone.
Hon. Moshood who is representing Lagos Mainland Constituency I made the call when members of the Caretaker Committee of Lagos SWAN paid him a courtesy visit in his office recently.
“You cannot call yourself a Sports Journalists if the only Sports you know is football” he stated. “Others Sports which are termed to be premium like Polo, Golf and others should also be reported with passion”.
“It is not only when they are hosting special events that you report them, give them the same attention you give football” he charged.
He however commended the Caretaker Committee for their resilience, dedication and zeal towards ensuring a right standard. He further added that their professionalism and active ethical values will help bring positive improvement to sports Journalism practice in Lagos.
Hon. Moshood further called for integrity check, professionalism upgrading through organized Seminars and Conferences to heighten the standard of Sports Journalism practice in the state.
He lauded the administration of His Excellency Governor Sanwo Olu for his commitment and outstanding performance in area of sports development in Lagos State, and added that Lagos will continue to be the home of Sports and for all athletes.
He congratulate the Caretaker Committee once again and implore them to be more focused and committed towards the task given to them and ensure that professionalism is given adequate attention.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of a customized jersey to the lawmaker by members of the Lagos SWAN Caretaker Committee
