Kano Pillars Relegated From NPFL Following LMC Sanction

Four-time Champions Kano Pillars have been relegated from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) for the first time in 20 years. Their relegation was confirmed yesterday after losing an away match to Nasarawa United at the Jos Olympic Stadium in a week 37 clash which ended 1-0. Kano Pillars were on 45 points on the table prior to the loss, and probably would still have had hopes of moving out of relegation despite the 1-0 loss to Nasarawa United. But things became worse after the League Management Company (LMC) deducted three points from them for disciplinary action, which now left them with 42 points. They were involved in acts of violence which led to their former chairman hitting a match official during a match and fans invading the pitch. The 2022 NPFL season has been marred by various unprofessional behavior , ranging from harassment of match officials, attack on media practitioners to arson and vandalism.
