The Power of Sports of Africa Governor Nyesom Wike has given each players of the Rivers United Players a cash of $20,000 for winning the NPFL 2021/2022 season.
This was the latest of development which happened today in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital where the governor held a reception for the team.
Rivers United F.C won the state’s first ever NPFL title and they also became the first team to hit 77 points and accomplished the feat as runaway league winners with 10 points adrift Plateau United.
Winning the title is as a result of the long-term investment which the administration of Wike had done, and it had paid off as the team handed him the title as a parting gift.
Governor Nyesom Wike’s tenure ends in May 2023 as he will not be there when the team competes at the CAF Champions league.
However, he has also made arrangements for a two-week tour of the team in Madrid where they will prepare for next season’s CAF Champions League.
All members of the team were also conferred with the Governors Merit of Service Award(GMSA).
