Falconets Beat France To Go Top In FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Opener

Nigeria’s Falconets started their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup campaign with an impressive victory to go top of the group in San Jose.

17-year-old Flourish Sabastine’s 85 minute goal broke the deadlock to ensure the match which had craved for goal finally recorded one.

Although the French side had earlier scored a goal, VAR ruled it out before Danjuma’s girls invoked the ‘Nigerian-spirit’ to get the only goal of the match.

The match was hindered a bit by bad weather leading to delay. Perhaps, it was to wet the ground for the Falconets, who eventually got their pound of flesh after the French side sent them packing in 2008.

Nigeria’s victory means they go top of the group with a maximum of three points. They will play Korea Republic on Sunday in their second group match.
