Arsenal beat Liverpool 3-2 on Sunday in a match that has seen them establish themselves as champions in the making and, with that victory, overtake Manchester City again to go top after week 10 matches.
This is the first time gunners have exhibited this kind of character in a very long time, and Arteta and his men must be congratulated for this impressive performance.
One noticeable fact about the English Premier League in the past five seasons is that the Champions no longer wait till the end of the season before they become champions, but they show the character of champions right from the beginning of the season and Arsenal have demonstrated that so far.
On three occasions, they took the lead against a struggling Liverpool, and they eventually succeeded in establishing authority over the six-time European Champions at the Emirate Stadium.
Arteta will have to wait to play Manchester City as that will give us an idea of who may likely become champions. Man City have in the last five seasons proved that they are a team to be beaten and have also dominated during this period.
The only team that has won the English Premier League outside Man City in the past five seasons is Liverpool, and it was Man City they actually competed with. The same scenario is playing out now, as Arsenal are now on top with Man City trailing them and hoping that the Gunners could drop a point for them to go top.
But the Gunners victory over Liverpool have made Arteta send signals to his former boss Pep Guardiola that his side is now interested in the title and both will have to fight hard to determine who will become champions. Arsenal made a clear statement when they defeated Liverpool and the only direction that is going is that the premier league title is between Manchester City and Arsenal.
