A former chairman of the Gombe FA, Alhaji Gara Gombe, has called on the Interim Management Committee (IMC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)to include inspection of vehicles as part of preseason activities at the beginning of the season.
Gombe, who made the call recently on the Nigeria Sports Centre platform, described what happened to players and officials of Wikki Tourists who were travelling to Uyo for an NPFL match as wickedness and unacceptable.
“The NFF and IMC should not stop at pre-season inspection of stadiums to determine the level of readiness of teams”, Gombe started.
“They should also get an inspection team of Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) and automobile experts to inspect vehicles and determine their level of road worthiness before the season kicks off”, he continued.
“Players and officials of Wikki Tourists were on their way to Uyo from Bauchi yesterday, and their bus broke down in Otukpo, under the cold weather late in the night. They made efforts to revive the bus but it failed.”
“They had to hire another bus to proceed with the journey”. “This is wickedness that human beings are being subjected to and it is not acceptable”, Gombe insisted.
Wikki Tourist are playing their first away match this season, and the fact that it is the first journey their bus embarked on confirmed that so much work needs to be done.
